It started with a chicken …
A chicken’s foot may seem an unlikely catalyst for the development of a global athletic brand,. But when, in 1906, William J. Riley, a 33-year old English immigrant, used the anatomy of a feathered friend to inspire his range of shoe supports and prescription footwear in Boston, Massachusetts, New Balance was born.
Achieving Sporting Excellence
While Riley’s Chicken-inspired innovation set the standard for New Balance’s commitment to pushing the boundaries, it wasn’t until 32 years later that Riley’s ingenuity would extend to the world of sport, when the first New Balance running shoe was designed and manufactured for a local running club in Boston. Made of lightweight kangaroo leather and a crepe-sole, an initial run of six pairs were sold to the club for $7 apiece, where they were received with rave reviews.
Word soon spread about New Balance’s innovative running shoes, and it didn’t take long for the brand to introduce custom shoes for a range of sports, including baseball, basketball, tennis and boxing.
Provence takes up residence in La Vallée Village.
The story began in 1976, in Provence, when Olivier Baussan created L'Occitane. Having purchased a distillation still, he gathered some wild rosemary and extracted its essential oil. He then used this oil to make shampoos, which he sold at the local markets. At L'Occitane, every ingredient is synonymous with authenticity, respect and a sensorial experience.
AUTHENTICITYBehind every one of its creations, there is always a true story inherited from the traditions of Provence – or elsewhere.
INSPIRING THE SENSESThe effective beauty products are the result of bringing together tradition, nature and research. From its texture to its fragrance, a L’Occitane product always offers a delicious moment of well-being and sensory delight.
RESPECTL’Occitane is committed to limiting the environmental impact of its actions and products, to improving the well-being of both its customers and employees, and to supporting the causes close to its heart whenever possible. Through braille labelling, the brand strives to make our products accessible to visually impaired people. Through both the company and the L'Occitane Foundation, it continues its efforts to further develop these commitments.
We all know (or Instagram stalk) that one person who embodies unapologetic cool – and thanks to Parisian label Sandro – renowned for their clean lines and contemporary classics – you too can ooze streetwise allure and finally achieve that coveted cool-girl/boy status.
Prepare to take notes…
A staple for street style darlings and style aficionados, the humble sweatshirt has now assumed full cult status. What else is versatile enough to complement leather leggings and tailored tracksuit trousers equally well? Time to make nice with the athleisure trend and stock up on statement sweatshirts, we say.
The Sandro way: Team the ‘Relax’ sweatshirt with cropped high-rise jeans and complete the look with bold pumps, because you can.
Step into the season on the right foot with Ted Baker’s gorgeous collection. Here’s everything we’re coveting for the months ahead…
It’s all about prints this season, ranging from the big and the bold right through to pared-back pastels. Make a subtle statement in artistic A-line dresses, mixed up with bold reds and pinks, perfect for the warmer evenings ahead. Geometric stripes give a futuristic feel to the range, pairing monochrome base colours with mint, coral and yellow hues. Sorbet shades are also set to be big this season and Ted Baker has it covered; expect floaty, loose-fitting dresses in soft vanilla, creams and powdery blues. Perfection.
Gents; keep it casual with Ted Baker’s stylish yet minimalist tailoring. The floral herringbone shirts give an understated formal feel, perfectly paired with a deconstructed blazer. For a more casual feel, officewear meets sportswear with the collection’s tapered chinos in navy tones. Complete the look with a bright coloured jumper and soft grey suede bomber jacket.
