Go bold and steal the spotlight.

Omar Victor Diop: part grace and part humour

The guest star for autumn 2018 is Omar Victor Diop. Born in Dakar in 1980, the Senegalese photographer is a regular guest to La Vallée Village and so it was only natural he would collaborate with The Bicester Village Shopping Collection® – producing an autumn campaign that reflects his peppy aesthetics.

Omar has achieved great success in his career and his work has been exhibited all over the world, including at Bamako Encounters, Dakar Biennale, Rencontres d’Arles, Paris Photo, Quai Branly Museum and Louis Vuitton Foundation. Yet, nothing predestined Omar Victor Diop to be a photographer. As the sixth and last child of a family of jurists and bankers, he first complied with the family's culture. After studying at the ESCP Business School in Paris, he was recruited by the Parisian audit bureau, before going on to work at several multinationals in Dakar who sent him Kenya and Nigeria, who sent him to Kenya and Nigeria. While he was there he took photos on the weekends – photographing his generation's bloggers, artists and activists while taking inspiration from Western Africa’s portrait photographers as well as great photographers such as Richard Avedon, Seydou Keita and Jean-Paul Goude. His work was also influenced by his penchant for hip-hop and R&B culture. All this results in photographs that combine popular culture and bright colours: half grace and half humour. Today, at age 38, Omar’s art has covered the world.

This is the luxury of being an artist - there's room for improvisation until the very last minute.

Exhibition: The Game of Style

La Vallée Village is proud to welcome the series The Game of Style, which was originally created by Omar Victor Diop for MoMa in New York, to its Art Gallery. The series asks what fashion says about our era, and what makes it an important visual marker for identity. By observing fashion through a prism of design, the Senegalese photographer takes a fun look at the universe as if it were a card game. Clothing, colours, fabrics: each image shows to what extent clothing affects our lives and shapes our personality.

The series is showing from 12 September to 31 December 2018 at the Art Gallery at La Vallée Village.
